Boundless valleys and tranquil waters ahead soft treelines and imperial mountains: these particular sceneries when cast by the hands of painter Deborah Lambert are incomparable and oh-so bewitching. The New Zealand based artist creates en plein air, journeying into the natural world for sources of inspiration. Other NZ landscape artists, practitioners of en plein air, and fellow artist friends also fuel her fire for the artform. Her preferred mediums include oil and watercolor on canvas–she first began utilizing these paints as a child in various workshops with a renowned artist and family friend. Lambert’s transition from studio to painting alla prima on location has enabled her to quicken her process and capture the true essence of what lies before her canvas and palette. Her visual lullabies depict a heavenly escape viewers desperately wish to attend. It is from these odes to nature’s beauty that she intends to comment on the fragility of our environment and the impact of climate change.

Lambert passionately tutors in art and has previously worked as a primary school teacher and dairy farmer. She’s a member of the Watercolour New Zealand Society, Ashburton Society of Arts, and Plein Air Painters of New Zealand. Hobbies of gardening, tramping, and fishing also entertain her love for nature.
