The artwork of Ming Xiong is inspired by history and Chinese calligraphy. Xiong creates his colors from 2,000 year old frescoes, while following the traditional Chinese techniques of artmaking. Xiong trained at the Oil Painting Department of the Zhejiang Academy of Fine Arts and the Hangzhou Institute of Education in Zhejiang Province. After his formal education, he traveled all over the country to perfect his painting skills and opened galleries in Hangzhou and Fuzhou. Xiong also spent six years copying and studying the works of the Old Masters at the Louvre, in Paris.

Xiong exhibits a stunning range of talent, applying watercolor, ink, oil, and acrylic on a range of surfaces. He mainly utilizes these materials to create two types of artworks: oil paintings on fine linen and paintings resembling traditional Chinese art styles. For the latter, Xiong mainly paints freehand horses, peonies, and tigers often on rice paper. He employs the curves and simple forms of Chinese calligraphy to complete his works with clear lines. Xiong has exhibited internationally, with his work in the Zhejiang Third Oil Painting Exhibition and the “Colors from China” exhibition in Milan . His work reflects the idea that simplicity is a marker of great skill.
