The primary inspiration for his photographs comes while walking or hiking in nature or exploring local surroundings. Armed with a Canon T6i camera, he feels compelled to register tiny fragments of nature that may otherwise be overlooked: a crab shell, a flower, a cluster of wild berries, an orange leaf on a bed of pine needles. “I capture the one percent that you see,” McKenney says. “When the spirit moves me, I venture out and photograph what I believe will bring value to the eye.” McKenney’s pictures are a breath of fresh air. Despite focusing on the small details, they emanate an aura of expansive silence that quiets the mind of the viewer, albeit for a short moment.
McKenney has a degree in Liberal Arts from the University of Maine at Presque Isle. He lives and works in Biddeford, Maine.
