Inquire Buy on ARTmineRiddled in signs, symbols, shapes, and codes, Daniel Pailes-Friedman’s paintings challenge notions of imagery and sense-making. In both his ‘Coalescence’ and ‘Notes’ series, Pailes-Friedman plays with vaguely Roman characters, spelling nothing in particular, to point out the signification and abstraction inherent in human meaning-making. Transcending political and cultural events, he uses shapes, colors and patterns to speak on bigger topics such as the nature of being, perception, and the importance of connection. Pailes-Friedman sees his arts practice as a type of meditation: he begins with a question or concept and then seeks to resolve it through painting. He knows his work is complete when he gets the magical feeling of resolution.
Pailes-Friedman lives and works in Brooklyn, NY.
