Inquire Buy on ARTmineKuruma Reid’s pen and ink drawings, luminously sensual, glow and vibrate in their reckoning. His subjects seethe and melt in displays of both humanity and inhumanity. Soulless, for example, presents two figures intimately poised, gazing out at the viewer, their pupils eerily absent suggesting a void or a certain inhumanness; but Reid’s drawings are far from soulless. Reid’s work lands in the realm of hyperrealism, but speaks to a hope far beyond the confines of technique highlighting the struggles of the Jamaican people, histories of slavery, and displacement to offer a regenerative perspective.
Reid lives and works in Spanish Town, Jamaica.
