Valerie Caillet-Bois’s stony planes slash and cut the atmosphere in her quietly furrowed canvases. Her training in stained-glass work is apparent in her flattened sections and bold lines. The subtlety, however, of her paintings reflect the landscapes which she depicts: the cold white skies feel still and frigid against the mountainous crags. It comes as no surprise, seeing her work, that Caillet-Bois hails from Switzerland, home of some of the most majestic mountainscapes in the world. She states that she need only look outside for inspiration for her art practice and has developed a style uniquely depicting the relationship between the painter and the environment in which she finds herself.
