Laura Viñas
Chelsea International Photography Competition Exhibition
February 19 - February 28, 2019
Reception: Thursday, February 21, 2019, 6-8 PM
InquireLaura Viñas thinks of her work as “spectral portraits” of the landscape in the Argentine pampas. However, for her the artwork is a mental construction of images stored in her memory rather than a realistic rendering of a scene.
In Viñas’ “Dilemma” series, she pursues her perceptions of this landscape as evanescent representations. She heightens the effect of fragility by using rice paper so thin that the images appear to be in perpetual movement, vanishing and becoming visible unpredictably. She also restricts her color palette and choice of materials.
