InquireMarc Carniel is a Belgian-Italian multi-disciplinary artist. Carniel moves freely between painting, video, and photography. Of these media, he views photography as a means to capture an eloquent story. Using images to write poetry, Carniel seeks eternity embedded in time.
In diptych photographs like Devotion the artist puts two pictures together to create a single meaningful narrative that remains open to the viewer’s interpretation.
Nevertheless, devotion bears witness to the woman's resistance against the aggression:
Two fingers of a man blind a godly woman, and a cup forces her mouth shut. However, she remains stoic, and her poised hands show that she remains feminine. She maintains majesty in spite of the careless, restriction of the magazine.
Contrasted black-and-white and color images, subverted expectations with respect to the scale of elements large and small and inventive use of textures all lend this work dynamism and emotion.
