Korean photographer and photojournalist HaleLee Seoyeon masterfully captures the paradox of compassionate isolation in urban spaces. Inspired by her childhood memories, Seoyeon’s photographs are often fragmented, documenting withered hands grasping at wallets, or the brief physical touch between two sets of fingers exchanging money at a newsstand. Lone salesmen stare defiantly at the audience, surrounded by a claustrophobic cacophony of candies, snacks, and magazines. In all her works, there exists an underlying empathy for the everyday struggles of humanity thrust into urban life. The artist is currently based in New York.
