Art is just as important to Swedish artist Sofia Holmberg as the air we breathe. Creating art is Holmberg’s method of disconnecting from our busy world, of venting her moods and emotions into tangible form. Painting is her way of communicating what she cannot express in words or other modes of communication, and it has been for as long as she can remember. In the beginning stages of her artistic journey, she dared not express herself in color. This all changed in 2010, when Holmberg had a traumatic experience that altered her worldview and enlivened her artistic process. She began using color and creating larger works, finding light and healing through her art.

The emotional subjectivity of Holmberg’s art does not impress a singular meaning upon the audience; instead, she aims to ask motivating, personal questions through her work, such as, are you getting a melancholic feeling with a spark of hope? Holmberg’s artistic inspiration also comes from when she was young and her grandmother introduced her to Claude Monet, whose work has continued to resonate with her throughout her life. This childhood passion for art has evolved into a visceral, abstract art that is, ultimately, a window into Holmberg’s inner self. Her art has been exhibited in various exhibitions in Sweden, and her first solo exhibition was in Stockholm in 2015. She hopes that each viewer will be able to identify themselves with the emotion in her painted world.
