Rebecca Katz
Fall Equinox: A Collective Exhibition
September 17 - October 8, 2019
Reception: Thursday, January 1, 1970, 6-8 PM
InquireRebecca Katz’s art asks viewers to step into a world of possibility, mystery, and magic, and to be transported through color, light, and texture. Working in acrylic and graphite, as well as wet on wet, Katz uses drips to create texture and atmosphere, which alludes to what’s beneath the surface. Her work presents nature, seductive and in constant movement, translating the vast spaciousness and mystery of the horizon to the canvas. Layers and layers of paint are applied on the canvas before she even knows how the image will present itself in its final form.
In a unique melding of artistry and culinary skill, Katz has created a distinct niche, ”I grew up with a spatula in one hand and a paintbrush in another among a family of artists and cooks. I’ve blended the two together, as chef/author of 5 award-winning cookbooks and a mixed media artist.” Katz pioneered a novel use of food in the treatment of cancer, working closely with survivors and health professionals in US cancer centers. She finds making art and cooking creatively are both opportunities to be fully present in life.
