Reception: Thursday, May 3, 2018, 6-8 PM
InquireIn her underwater photographs, artist Lorella seeks to reveal beauty in unexpected places. Lorella submerges richly hued wildflowers in pigmented liquids, transforming the inherent prettiness of a fragile flower into something more abstract and unpredictable. Her compositions document minute reflections and ripples alongside veiny petals and pollen-filled stamen, creating swirling, jewel-toned images that capture the understated, unseen splendors of nature from a unique perspective.
In Abstract Flower (16) and Abstract Flower (14), Lorella photographs a magenta and bright yellow bloom against a liquid that ranges from sea green to Mediterranean turquoise. Dots of pigment hover in the water like painterly flecks of paint on an abstract canvas. In her photograph Abstract Flower (26), the artist composes an image in which three flowers float precariously, the incredible diversity of color and texture lending a translucent luminosity to the work. Finally, Abstract Flower (2) is an explosive, vibrant image. A neon yellow flower is drenched with cobalt liquid, the complimentary colors and three dimensional flora working together to create a dynamic, radiant image.
