Born in China, and having spent significant time in Japan, Canada, and the United States, Suqun Zhang's multicultural background is prevalent in his blend of eastern and western artistic perspectives. Zhang integrates rich landscapes and jungle life in a mixture of realism and abstract, usually in Chinese ink, gouache, and watercolor on traditional Chinese rice paper.

His recent works are heavily informed by his conservationism. After learning of the great number of tigers killed illegally by humans each year, Zhang realized he could perhaps use his artistry to awaken people’s awareness to the dwindling numbers of tigers. From his artwork, he hopes to convey the majesty and importance of the tiger, perhaps even inspiring some to involve themselves in their preservation.
