Mixed media artist Michael Fridman has honed a wholly original style that expresses his rich cultural background, mastery of artistic techniques and genres. Averse to convention, the artist’s work successfully escapes from any central current in art, establishing himself as a true innovator of contemporary work. Fridman’s expressionist and abstract pieces host a depth, unsteadiness, and an elusiveness, which he achieves through minimalistic line-tools and complicated multilayered techniques. Those techniques involve combining drawings in ink with multiple transparent layers of oil paints, all applied on different bases such as paper, canvas, or carton. When a subject is apparent, it is ambiguous, like a human form constructed from an array of paint molecules, seemingly woven into the background. He creates meaning and dialogue through a creative meeting of color, texture and layout within surrounding spaces.

Human nature and humanity are driving themes in the artist's work, as he uses the act of creating to better understand and perceive the world, his curiosities, and affections. Fridman was born and educated in Ukraine, but currently lives in Switzerland where he works out of his personal studio. His work has been exhibited and highly acclaimed in Switzerland and abroad.
