Inquire View CatalogSierra Barnes is a self-taught artist, writer, and blogger based in Dallas, Texas. Her creative spirit shines through her colorful abstract and figurative compositions. Each piece of work she creates is born from an original poem, which she then handwrites on the back of the respective piece. Barnes began her artistic pursuits at the age of 5, after undergoing brain surgery for a craniopharyngioma. As she has grown up as a “brain tumor thriver,” she has honed her style and techniques. Barnes skillfully grasps complex emotions and translates them into an energetic visual language that challenges perception and perspective.
Her work develops its context around the notion of connection, embracing the relationship of the human relationships with self, surroundings, and finitude. As she brings brush to canvas, she expresses a subjective view of our existence as a phenomenon within the complex structure of the universe. Barnes has shown her effervescent canvases in several group and solo exhibitions in her artistic career. She has received several awards and been praised for the optimistic tone and timelessness of her canvases.
