Born in Nizhnevartovsk, a small town in Siberia, Yulia Stephan's energetic paintings express a reflective interiority. Mapped through abstraction, geometric shapes, and a bold color palette, Stephen's non- objective compositions speak to the historic vision of the Constructivist movement. Having studied economics in Tyumen, the influence of mathematical precision is apparent in Stephen's approach to space concerning her canvas. Her use of lines moves the viewer along the work, while light and shadow
sculpt the illusion of three-dimensionality.

The rhythmic shapes that Stephan's creates depict an expression of the pixelated every day. Her compulsive repetition allows her viewers to escape into the abyss of her paintings; Stephen's abstractions allow one to imagine what could be held in the mind of the artist but never seek to reveal any absolutism. There is a distinct visuality, that is apparent across her entire body of work, relying on simplicity, intricacies, and complexity of thought.
