Clare Holzer is an artist who lives in downtown Los Angeles, a city that she finds endlessly inspiring. In her paintings, she strives to express the sense of place. An extremely gifted colorist, Holzer is able to take a seemingly unremarkable, mundane subject matter and depict it with great feeling. Nostalgic reverie permeates paintings of a restaurant’s glowing window (Good Girl Dinette), a food truck (Danny’s Tacos), or a late night bus traveling down a dark street (Night Bus). Holzer writes that for her the feeling of a place is connected to looking into the past. She hopes that people looking at her art will recognize the places she chose to portray. Even if they do not, she wants the viewer to go looking for them and to fall in love with places the way she has.
Holzer is a successful artist who has been actively exhibiting and selling art since 2005.
