Mexican artist Lorena Becerra is not afraid to bend genres and materials in order to realize her vision. Lorena employs paint, paper, wax glazes, and found objects, among other things, in her creation of a stark yet chaotic aesthetic. She also stirs up her content by using text and photographs alongside raw materials like paint and organic things like pasta. Her artistic approach is instinctive and all-seeing.

Lorena's pieces range from figure studies to purely abstract meditations on monochromatism or texture. Often it is something in the middle, wherein Lorena uses pattern and color to comment on a representational image that is only one part of the larger canvas. One defining element of her style is her combination of an energetic painting hand with impersonal collage techniques. She draws bold lines on the canvas, putting her autograph hand front and center - and then pastes typewritten words on top, as anonymous as any other printout.

Becerra was born in Guadalajara, Mexico and studied art in Florence, Italy. She has also studied under Guadalajara's most recognised artists, Gustavo Aranguren and Ulises Gonzales. Her work has gained prestigious recognition, such as showing at the Monterrey FEMSA Biennal.
