Brazilian born artist Charlotte Lisboa chronicles her life and experiences through her art. “We need art to understand our individual and shared history,” says Lisboa of how her art reflects her life. A kidney transplant survivor, she has learned to treasure every second, and delights in bringing beauty and sensitivity through her drawings, portraits, and landscape paintings. As Lisboa’s influences range from Monet and Renoir to Rembrandt and Klimt, as well as Rothko's abstract art, some have considered her a realist artist with a touch of impressionism and abstraction mixed in.

Family is an important inspiration for Lisboa, who cites the birth of her two daughters and the love for her family as her motivation to become the artist she is today. Her cultural background (her mother is French and her father Brazilian) has also played a large role in the choices she’s made with her creations. Through her work Lisboa hopes to dispel the fast-paced world of quick decisions and fragmented thoughts, observing, “Creating allows us to slow down and experience the full range of our emotions. Understanding our emotions can help us heal, grow and improve ourselves.”
