Variety is the watchword of Simone Monney’s creative practice, reveling in the different textures, colorations, and forms of transparency specific to the different media she puts to use. Monney’s works, though patently deriving from the same artist’s hand, have a fluxional quality about them. Each aspect of her compositions—whether they depict cityscapes, popular cartoon icons, or a fireapple red convertible—has an autonomy all its own, which nonetheless crystallizes into an almost visionary gestalt. Occupying a twilight space between Pop Art and surrealism, Simone Monney’s mixed-media pictures put every element of their composition to work.
