Véronique Vallet
December 5 - December 9, 2018
Reception: Thursday, December 5, 2018, 6-8 PM
InquireReminiscent of certain works by Rene Magritte, Véronique Vallet’s otherworldly take on the apple uses principles of both aesthetics and design. The aesthetic side of her work is evident in the way she applies the venerable medium of oil-on-canvas. Her delicately rendered apples are works of the highest realism—still-lifes mysteriously (mis)placed in spaces which are equally enigmatic. These spaces often outline an impossible perception of figure/ground relationships. The realism of Vallet’s work nevertheless depicts such spaces as though they were irrefragable, like the certitude of a dreamed event remembered upon waking.
