The art of Kara Daviau is all about texture. Sometimes this manifests itself as a strangely foregrounded object against an improbable backdrop, as in her photographs. At other times, texture is something like an event intrinsic to the qualities of paint.

In The Real World, for instance, the entrance to a house has a puzzling appearance to it — partly due to the way the house’s numbers take on a more objective life than the house’s architecture. A subtle application of acrylic paint enhances this effect.
