Alcides Rivas is profoundly inspired by his homeland in the Andean region of Venezuela; creating compositions that depict the environment of his grandparents' coffee farm. His minimalist approach and use of earth tones, in combination with his study of architecture, results in repeated shapes and structured lines that aim to achieve a zen-like simplicity.

Rivas plays with texture and material, including fabric and string, to create a visceral sensory experience. In essence, his work not only conveys fond childhood memories but also pays homage to his Venezuelan heritage.
