Antonio Vargas
The Latin American Fine Art Competition Exhibition
December 10 - December 20, 2019
Reception: Thursday, January 1, 1970, 6-8 PM
InquireColumbian artist Antonio Vargas endeavors to create work centered around the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and its broader application and implications for oppressed and underrepresented peoples around the world.
At the age of 7, Vargas experienced visiting his father in a political prison in Bogotá, where he was incarcerated for being outspoken about social injustices and human rights violations perpetrated by the Colombian government. This experience, as well as extensive traveling and human rights activism around the world, has then led Vargas to create work that actively denounces the violation of human rights while also exploring its relationship with art.
