Inquire View CatalogDavid Morrison is a Canadian artist who works predominately with acrylic on canvas. Inspired by Ralph Steadman and Jean-Michel Basquiat, Morrison has developed a distinctive style featuring energetic brushstrokes and flamboyant, grotesque figures. Having started painting at a very young age, he views painting as an intuitive process through which he creates unique works, each with their own character. Morrison’s art not only succeeds in conveying vitality and energy to the audience, but it also can be interpreted as a frenetic flow that ridicules our reality. Through the sneering lips and staring eyes on the grotesque figures, our realities seem to be observed, commented upon, processed, and digested.
The ambiguous nature of his works inspires intrigue and contemplation. The sporadic composition of varying elements on the canvas evokes the viewers’ imagination and their internal reorganization of these elements. The eerily inspective quality and the expressive nature of Morrison’s works elevate abstract graffiti into the realm of the New York gallery scene.
