Gita Levy describes her taut, probing art as "an experimental state of mind". In acrylic, oil, and mixed-media, Levy conjures a world of bold protagonists, misty backgrounds, and dark, blocky shadows. She paints scenes in which one person is depicted in black and white and another in bright colors, or a highly detailed tunnel opens out onto a blank space.

Levy paints stylized figures, animals, and landscapes that mix symbolic and psychological themes; the results are compositions featuring topics as diverse as the Wailing Wall in Jerusalem or a hallucinogenic vision of a child's rocking horse. She also creates what can only be described as portraits: intimate, thoughtful likenesses of women, often full-length, that function as much as character studies as figural ones.

Levy was born in Israel, where she continues to live and work today. She has exhibited and studied art all over the world, including in France, Italy, and New York City.
