Anson Liaw is an artist and illustrator based in Toronto, Canada. Upon graduating from the Ontario College of Art & Design from the Communication & Design Department Design Advertising Program, his versatile illustrations have been an integral part of many projects ranging from magazines, book publications, corporate, packaging and advertising communications.
Liaw’s illustrations take on critical views; both light and heavy about the modern world and its cultural, social, and political issues. He combines various objects, scenes and situations with his memories and imagination to manufacture new and unexpected meanings. His work is conceptual and possesses an interesting fusion of graphic and painterly qualities.
The artist and illustrator has garnered recognition and awards for his work, including the Center of the World (COW) Illustration Biennale, American Illustration and Luerzer’s Archive “200 Best Illustrators” Worldwide Special Editions. He has had major clients around the world including Time Magazine, McDonald’s, Fedex, The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal, Boston Globe, Nestle, Los Angeles Times, and countless more. Anson shares his love and passion for the communication and design arts by teaching at OCAD University and Virtute Innovation and Art Education Inc. in Canada.
