Korean artist Bo Song expresses the vitality of life through her color palette, infusing every work with bright, unmodulated pools of color separated by thick, black lines, reminiscent of Fauvism and the works of Matisse. Working primarily in oil on canvas, Song lets her subject matter lead her through the image-making process, relying on intuition and spontaneity rather than meticulously-planned sketches. She often employs contradicting techniques; tight, meticulous brushwork conveys refinement and control, which she interrupts with the frenetic energy of loose strokes and spontaneously applied colors.

As a practicing Buddhist, Song incorporates themes of karma in her work, finding peace and comfort in the natural world. Every stroke comes from a place of love as she carefully renders the details of the Korean countryside. The artist reminds us of the power of immersing oneself in nature. Bo Song currently lives and works in Unjung-dong, Korea.
