Swedish painter Catrine Lindström delights the eye with vibrant scenes of Nordic nature and abstractions. Splitting her time between Stockholm and the island of Gotland on the Baltic Sea, she draws inspiration from local marine scenes and flora. Her paintings are highly textured using a mixture of acrylic paint and modeling paste, thickly applied with a palette knife, a brush, or a sponge. Blue, in its various shades and tones, is predominant in her palette. In Sailboats, a fleet of sailboats floats across the sea; spots of red and white caught between a rich cerulean sky and deep ultramarine waters. Cascades of azure mimic the movement of ocean waves in Shades of Blue, while Smoke on the Water displays jets of white, black, and orange bursting against a steel-tinted firmament. Lindström, however, embraces the full spectrum of nature’s vivid colors in Bouquet, Flowerfield, and All Kind of Flowers. “I create my ideas with colors,” she explains. “I think it’s something that makes people happy.”
Lindström began to paint a year ago. She has since completed a substantial body of work and received numerous commissions. A cardiac care nurse and dog behaviorist, she authored medical publications as well as books for children and on dog training.
