CHAMM’S is a visionary abstract painter from Reunion Island, based in the Normandy region of France. CHAMM’S journey into art began almost involuntarily. In 2011 the artist undertook an initiatic pilgrimage to Stonehenge. Each night after that, drawings would appear in her sleep, which she would then note down on a piece of paper. CHAMM’S soon realized she was acting as a channel for messages she could not yet decipher. Esoteric and primitive-looking symbols, codes, figures, and text–the meaning of which was unknown to her–started free-flowing out of her hands. “My hand moves on its own,” she says. “It took me about ten years to understand I had to pay attention and let my hand draw these lines and forms. I try to channel as best I can, without exerting any control.” Executed in a variety of water-based media, these mediumestic downloads take as little as 10 minutes, resulting in an artistic production that can reach close to 40 paintings a week. “I don’t know what’s inside of them,” she admits. “But I know that the person who will buy the painting will give me the answer.”
