InquireDanish artist Else Husted Kjær views life as a form of poetry. Heavily inspired by the landscapes of Scandinavia, her colorful abstract paintings pay tribute to nature and the human experience. Husted Kjær works mainly with oil on canvas to create her spirited compositions, making her studio practice a fully immersive experience. While she paints she always listens to classical music, which motivates her choice of colors as well as her brushstrokes. She is inspired by the impressionists, who sought to capture the fleeting moments of life harmoniously. She depicts outdoor scenes, which she then abstracts employing varying brushstrokes—often allowing the paint to drip or blend freely—emphasizing the spontaneity of life.
Travel is another major source of inspiration for the artist. The unique landscapes of surrounding Nordic countries influence her green and blue color palette. A life-changing trip to India brought warmer and deeper colors to her oeuvre. Her ultimate mission as an artist is to use her work to bring joy and optimism to beholders. She states, “I believe the light and colors of my paintings will help and inspire them to find the poetry where they live. Poetry is everywhere, also inside themselves.”
