Hap Garrett creates work concerned with permanence, allure, and based on the interaction developed with his viewer. By using an abundance of materials with innovative structures, composed primarily of new outdoor signage in combination with acrylic and ink, Garrett creates bold works that are meant to attract the attention of anyone who passes by.

Believing in the power of visuals, noting that the physicality of his work can cut through quotidian noise, Garrett's maximalist style goes beyond just the aesthetics of his practice. He is also invested in his art surviving everyday life and challenges the notions of art as delicate or fragile; continually creating work that is spill-proof and even washable.

His family history and upbringing have heavily influenced his artistic production. As a young child, Garrett built and painted plastic models of military planes and tanks, inspired by his veteran grandfather. His mother and grandmother were practiced in figurative oil painting, which ignited his attempts at painting on canvas. He also notes art historical influences: the cubist work of Pablo Picasso and the dynamic collage murals of Mark Bradford. A proclaimed expressionist at heart, his experimentation with various mediums and exploration of different themes culminate in a unique oeuvre aiming for perpetuity.
