Artist Natalia Gaviria has created an idiosyncratic aesthetic through experimentation with color and material. She utilizes a variety of mediums including plaster, acrylic, and resin to create canvases that display a distinctive interest in texture and relief. She employs thick applications of paint—which she allows to splatter, drip, or organically blend—to create vigorous compositions. Her rich color palette, inspired by natural and urban landscapes, enhances the structure and materiality of the canvas.
Though the resulting paintings seem spontaneous, Gaviria follows a precise process. She begins by studying her canvas, deciding the primary geometric figure on which to base her composition.
