Inquire Buy on ARTmine View CatalogUS photographic artists have endlessly pursued landscape and geographic photography, leading to history-changing snapshots like Adams' The Tetons and the Snake River. Steven Manolakis, a US-to-Australia expat, already has numerous photography awards under his belt, despite his young age. He negotiates his medium format camera from bush planes and helicopters to seize the raw grandeur of the Great Southern Land. Inspired by the quantum notions of the Existentialist philosophers, he captures the wide-frame view of marine habitats creating an original school of photography that can actually be called "meta." Viewers are pulled into the coastal tableau by the deceptively fine details of sand furrows and the filigree of stream tributaries. The deep, intriguing turquoise of Blue Dragon with its gnarling creek focal point sets against an arresting tiger lily swatch in The Shimmer. In keeping with his broadband artistic mien, he utilizes the medium-format in large part to create expansively-sized prints: he works in the large format of feet over inches. Manolakis is a student in philosophy at Sydney's Macquarie University. His countless global laudations include numerous awards, honorable mentions, and shortlistings for his landscape photography. Most notably, he was part of the official selection of the 2022 International Photography Awards and the Remarkable Work category in the 2022 Siena Awards as well as a finalist in the 2020 Australian Geographic Nature Photographer of the Year competition.
