Among the Blue Ridge Mountains of North Carolina from where he resides, Goodro delivers his familiar earthly realities onto canvas by use of acrylic and gouache. Intrigued by art history, the Impressionist movement and Asian art, Goodro actively minds these perceptions. There is a strong connectivity between spirituality and sacred earth in the artist’s picturesque compositions. Identity Meets the Soul in North Carolina illustrates an immaculate escape–a body of water wedged between a forest’s opening, inviting all to experience ultimate tranquility; Summertime emulates an essence rather than an immediate portrayal of its title–exemplifying Goodro’s knack for translating natural ideas and settings. “As a mature artist, my goal is to provide a portal for others to experience joy and mindfulness,” he says.
Creativity and fine artistry is well-circulated in the Goodro family with Thomas’ mother and two sisters also being artists. Since moving to Asheville, NC, his practice has changed over time; becoming more expressive and vibrant, mirroring the community surrounding him. Outside of art, Goodro is retired from finance and healthcare and enjoys gardening, woodworking, horticulture, science, and studying oceanography.
