A successful entrepreneur for most of his life, Bavarian artist Ulrich Grabowski discovered painting as a way to process the emotional ups and downs of his career. In the cathartic experience of art-making, Grabowski finds a sense of freedom and deep satisfaction. His paintings are a journey into his psyche, the raw expression of his emotions conveyed through highly-textured surfaces of bold juxtaposed colors. Seemingly harmonious, Grabowski’s oeuvre is an alternation of light and darkness, joy and sadness, exuberance and sorrow. Like wounds on flesh, his brightly-painted canvases are traversed by a network of cracks, sutured by threads of gold paint, desecrated by stains of sanguineous red. Grabowski splits his time between his studio in Switzerland, near St. Gallen, and Leipzig, Germany, home to a thriving contemporary art scene. He exhibits his work regularly in both countries and boasts a wide roster of corporate and private clients.
