Michel Kirch

Renseigner

Michel Kirche is a French photographer whose recent accolades include winning the 23nd Chelsea International Fine Art Competition in New York, Festphoto Brazil in Porto Alegre, and being named the Monochrome Photographer of the Year for 2016. Using mostly monochrome imagery, his playfulness with angle and perspective is often used to create Escheresque contraptions of wonder, yet he is equally at ease capturing the extraordinary in landscapes that can easily be taken for granted. The philosopher Edgar Morin describes Kirchs’work as a kind of 'magic realism'. Originally a practioner of medicine who transitioned to plastic photography through a personal and artistic path, Kirch was named a UNESCO Intercultural Ambassador in 2012.
