Olivia O'Keeffe
RenseignerOlivia O'Keeffe’s vibrant paintings are simultaneously abstract and reminiscent of the natural world that surrounds us. Working in predominantly acrylic on canvas, the artist will typically lie the canvas flat on a table and proceed to let gravity guide the process of pouring and splashing paint onto the surface of her compositions. Once dry, O’Keeffe will allow the painting’s initial appearance dictate the final composition’s outcome. Her process is as playful as the works themselves; the artist often incorporates vibrant shades of blue, crimson, turquoise, and green that harmoniously marry with an organic abandon through her brushstrokes. In Breaking Free (2016), spirited shades of violet, navy, royal blue, and turquoise writhe and pirouette around each other, unencumbered by the boundaries of line and shape. Nonetheless, the sinewy drips of color that flow vertically from the top to the bottom of the canvas are reminiscent of deep sea-dwelling organisms, or perhaps a cosmic flow of energy; O’Keeffe leaves it up to her audience to decide. The artist currently resides in the Netherlands.
