메르 에보얀 brings a surreal world to life in his oil paintings. The artist says his goal is “to penetrate into the subconscious,” and he shows the personal and cultural undercurrents that animate seemingly ordinary objects. He gives such items as shoes and cards an active presence, turning still lifes into something with the human presence and drama of portraits. With a sharp eye for detail, Evoyan gives his work a physical realism that makes their dreamlike effect all the more compelling. He lives and works in Yerevan, Armenia.
